Tor Bay & Nicholaston Burrows

Tor Bay, Gower © Graham Taylor (CC 2.0)

Tor Bay is a large sandy beach that is shaped like a horseshoe. There is always some sand even at high tide and because it is enclosed and partially sheltered, this makes it popular with bathers. However there are no lifeguards on this beach.

It stands at the Eastern end of Oxwich Bay. At low tide you can walk West to Oxwich, past Nicholaston Burrows or East to Three Cliffs. If the tide is in, then the coastal paths need to be followed.

Facilities include:

  • Green Coast Award
  • parking in Penmaen

Nicholaston Burrows is much quieter than the Western end of Oxwich Bay because of its relative isolation. It takes maybe 15-20 minutes from the parking areas to the beach, but much longer on the way back up the steep sand dunes.

If you are looking for sand, lots of space and fantastic scenery, maybe this is the place for you. The nearest toilets and place to grab a drink or something to eat is the Oxwich Bay Hotel, some 40 minute walk across the beach.

Facilities include:

  • nearest parking in Nicholaston (through Crawley woods) or Penmaen
  • bird and plant life
